About Attorney Ashley J. Likens

Originally from a small town near Youngstown, Ohio, Attorney Ashley J. Likens grew up with humble beginnings. Not having cable TV, Ashley in her adolescence would watch shows like Judge Judy and her mom recounts from the age of 3, Ashley would stand up on her Little Tikes table and say "I want to be Judge Judy!" However, this was just a far-off dream that did not even seem fathomable until Ashley's last year at The Ohio State University.

Overcoming Adversity

In 2012, Ashley was in a very critical car accident with her best friend that left her in the hospital for a week and her friend in months of inpatient care, but the effects of that she still experiences today. The police reported that when they arrived to the scene and saw the car's state after hitting a tree and telephone pole, they expected to see lives lost in that vehicle. It was through divine intervention that everyone survived. "I don't think I ever spoke to my attorney throughout my entire personal injury case. I was always speaking to an assistant or a paralegal, and that is one reason why I ended up having limited recovery from that accident."

Academic Journey

In addition to the pain that plagued Ashley's life, Ashley struggled academically and with her memory following the car accident. She would have never even got to attend The Ohio State University if she didn't fight for it. Ashley was a transfer from Kent State to The Ohio State University. During her time at Ohio State renowned professor Dr. Lanier Holt, Ph.D. asked Ashley a question that she would continue to ask herself every day she wakes up... if not you, then who? He wrote in his recommendation letter for law school, "Ashley...one of the most driven and intelligent students I have had the pleasure of knowing and teaching here at The Ohio State University." A school with 60,000 students per year, a decorated professor's blessing, and to come shortly thereafter fittingly, a mentor and lawyer for 30+ years named Judy.

Professional Growth

Ashley started out as a law clerk doing Plaintiff's personal injury and medical malpractice cases for another innovative lawyer and being able to help someone else through a tough situation became Ashley's passion in life. Ashley strongly feels as though she can relate to her clients more than the average attorney because she has had her fair share of hardships. Ashley went from not being able to even give a speech in front of her high school peers, to trying cases alongside one of the best civil defense attorneys in the Tampa Bay area at the largest law firm in Florida. Ashley's experience working on all sides of the aisle uniquely positions her to get the maximum value for her clients. In addition to the insight taken from being an attorney for the insurance companies and big corporations, she has also spent time assisting the court with drafting of opinions and legal research while an extern.
